Protecting Your Roof from Damage

homeYour roof goes through a lot. Rain, wind, snow, ice, hot, cold - it’s the shield that protects the rest of your home from the elements. But even shields aren’t invincible. It’s no secret that your roof will need repairs or replacements periodically, but with some extra love, you can help your roof stay stronger for longer. Here are a few tips to help protect your roof:

  • Have a roof built with materials and construction techniques appropriate to your local environment. (If it can’t take the snow, say no)
  • Schedule regular pest inspections and pesticide treatments. This can help prevent invasions by termites, rodents and other vermin that might damage the roof or attic.
  • Don’t let foliage, moss or mold accumulate on the surface of the roof. It might cause added weight that the roof can’t sustain.
  • Always clean out your gutters. If your gutters are clogged with debris, then they can put extra weight on the roof.
  • If you have foliage that hangs over your roof, consider cutting it back. Branches can snap during a storm, sending it crashing into the home.
  • If you notice leaks, or other roof damage, immediately call your repair service. The sooner it’s fixed, the better.

Homeowners insurance typically won’t pay for standard roof upkeep or damage from normal wear and tear, so it’s so important to take care of your roof. If you have questions about what your home insurance covers or are interested in a quote, call us today at 888.908.6822.
